A Slip Sliding Success at the Meridian Waste Shotwell Environmental Park’s Summer Splash Bash

Raleigh, NC (August 21, 2023) – Meridian Waste, an integrated, non-hazardous solid waste services company, celebrated its third annual Summer Splash Bash at its Shotwell Environmental Park on Saturday, August 19 with 617 guests from the surrounding areas of Wake and Johnston Counties.

The annual event is hosted to encourage neighbors and community members to better understand what the Shotwell Environmental Park does on a daily basis to benefit the greater Triad marketplace and to help citizens realize that while it is a landfill, the construction and demolition debris disposal facility is clean, odor free, and a fun place for the splash bash.

“Besides the more than 200 balloon animals created and more than 560 hamburgers and hotdogs consumed, I was so impressed with our guests’ interest and participation in the landfill tours,” said Patrick Messinger, Area President, North Carolina.  “Nine hayride tours pulling 25 guests each entertained  community members of all ages who now have a much better understanding and appreciation for the vital recycling and disposal services we provide to our host community and surrounding areas.”

Guests enjoyed the free event, including an inflatable waterslide and obstacle course, yard games, and a complimentary grilled lunch. Activities included Meridian Waste’s signature Touch-A-Truck display with participants enjoying a variety of trucks and heavy machinery used in the environmental services industry along with a bubble wand creation project, and balloon twister.

The event featured a special guest, former North Carolina Secretary of State Rufus Edmisten, who participated and volunteered as an impromptu food server to feed the hungry visitors.

Shotwell Environmental Park is a construction and demolition (C&D) landfill located at
4724 Smithfield Road in Wendell. For more information, visit MeridianWaste.com/Shotwell.

The next event at Shotwell Environmental Park is the annual Charity Pumpkin Patch on Saturday, October 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pumpkin donations will directly benefit local community non-profit organizations with 100 percent of the proceeds to be contributed along with a matching donation by Meridian Waste.
