Meridian Waste Georgia is honoring an outstanding employee, and member of the Central Savannah River Area (CRSA) community, during September which is National Civic Engagement Month and National Preparedness Month, along with the anniversary of 9/11.

Anthony “Tony” Holt has been serving the greater Augusta region for more than 20 years as a driver in the environmental services industry, as a Columbia County firefighter, and as a dedicated 25 year veteran of the U.S. Army. Through a lifetime of service, Holt is still supporting his community.

“We are fortunate to have Holt on our team,” said Meridian Waste General Manager Derek Waddle. “You immediately get a sense of his dedication to his work after spending just a few minutes with him. He has a long service career helping people, giving back to his community, and honoring our Nation.”

Holt is originally from Miami, Fla. He began his military career at age 18 and has been stationed across the globe ranging from Houston, Texas to Germany. Throughout his time in the military, he served in Desert Storm, numerous peacekeeping missions, and finally retiring as a Sgt. 1st Class at Ft. Jackson, S.C.  His experience includes working in logistics, career counseling, and recruiting.

As a part-time Meridian Waste employee, Holt drives a roll-off truck delivering temporary containers to businesses and waste management do-it-yourselfers while counseling users on how to safely operate containers for best results.

“Holt came to Meridian Waste as a favor to me, helping to fortify our team of solid waste professionals by providing an extra driver to meet fluctuating demands in roll off deliveries and collections. He helps us provide the best environmental services possible to our commercial and residential roll off customers,” said Site Manager and longtime friend, Troy Winfrey.  “Holt is an incredible influence in all lines of business. He is a natural leader and inspires everyone with his positive spirit and pride in what he does.”

Holt continues his life of service as a firefighter working to educate citizens of all ages about fire safety. He is proud of putting out dangerous and costly fires throughout Columbia County.

“Fighting fires and working for a safe and clean community has been a lifelong dream. I have been fortunate to serve for 20 years in Columbia County as an engineer driving fire trucks, and more recently, driving garbage trucks for Meridian Waste. I will continue fighting fires and ensuring a clean environment as long as I can,” said Holt.

During his off time, Holt enjoys cooking and grilling and rides the open road on his motorcycle.
